Willow and Surf Life Saving Australia
Two Aussie icons you can trust this summer
In 2005 Willow Ware Australia Pty Ltd formed a partnership with Surf Life Saving
Australia (SLSA). Through this partnership Willow has donated sponsorship funds
and donated leisureware products to Australian surf clubs nationally to assist
clubs, most of which are run on a volunteer basis by dedicated individuals
protecting everyday Australians on our surf and adjacent areas.
Every year approximately 10,000 lives are saved, 30,000 people receive first aid
treatment and an estimated 55 million beach goers (those people who swim
between the flags), are protected vigilantly by our Surf Life Savers.
Since 1907, when a group of volunteers banded together at Bondi beach to
protect those bathers who ‘daringly’ chose to swim at the beach during daylight
hours, the volunteer surf lifesavers have become an integral part of the Australian
way of life.
Nowadays, the ‘red and yellow’ of Surf Life Saving is recognised internationally
and has become synonymous with everything Australian, through its image,
reputation and actions.
Often unnoticed is the enormous amount of work that goes into developing skilled
and motivated Australians from all walks of life. Indeed, some members of our
organisation progress from nippers, through to youth development programs,
seniors, to ultimately become leaders in our suburban communities.
Surf Life Saving has even greater relevance today, with an increasing population
and rising tourism market. More people are going to the beach as a source of
recreation and subsequently putting greater responsibilities onto those surf
lifesavers ‘on patrol’.
